Safway involved in recent development of transport platform ANSI standard

WAUKESHA, Wis. Feb. 25, 2010 The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) recently released the A92.10 standard for Transport Platforms. The new standard was the first official recognition of the Transport Platform in the U.S.

According to ANSI, a Transport Platform is used to vertically transport authorized persons, materials and/or tools to various levels on a structure.

Ted Beville, Safway's Safety and Training Manager for its Motorized Division, is a member of the A92.10 Sub-Committee who worked on the standard.

"This new standard gives regulatory agencies, contractors, rental companies, and users a common document to regulate the transport platform," Beville said. "This is a terrific piece of equipment that can only add to Safway's overall effectiveness as a single source for access equipment. We are pleased with the success we have enjoyed with our transport platforms. The versatility, ease of erection, and production enhancement we have seen makes this a good fit for our scaffold erection needs and has also been well received by our customers. Designed to be erected quickly, transport platforms are safe and flexible, and are a viable alternative to more expensive options."

Through the OSHA and Scaffold Industry Association (SIA) Alliance, SIA has also just announced "Transport Platform (TP) Safety Tips." The safety tips are tools designed to educate users on the correct way to perform their work on transport platform equipment.

"The recently approved 'Transport Platform Safety Tips' are the second document of its kind developed through the SIA/OSHA Alliance Program and a huge step forward in OSHA recognizing this new type of equipment. Along with the ANSI standard approved in 2009, these safety tips will reach the people using this type of product and help educate them on the safe and proper use of Transport Platforms. The Mast Climbing Council looks forward to working with OSHA, through the Alliance Program, to develop additional safety related material," said Greg Janda, SIA Mast Climbing Council Chair and document coordinator.
